Flippin’ History

I can see why this method is “particularly popular in math and science classes.” But what about history? If you’re a lecturer already, then this could work. My history classroom model, however, was premised on small-group discussion with homework as (a) reading (which is kind of like lecturing) and (b) writing reading responses.  Hmm… At any rate, this is intriguing.

  1. Really interesting idea! My biggest question after reading the article is what would students be doing in a history class while the lecturer “walked up and down the aisle”? Are they in small discussion groups, and the lecturer just pops in and out of each group? I love the idea overall, specifically because students digest audio material at such different levels, the ability to pause it and repeat would be really important for some students.
