Public Time And Historical Reflection

November 19, 2010

If Henry Giroux is right, I think his concept of “public time” demands historical reflection–or historical thinking. From this article I must conclude that history—its study, writing, and engagement with present-day questions—has never been more relevant. For example, Glenn Beck is constantly harping on historical issues. It seems he is creating a truth-squad industry for historians—if only someone would pay them to do this work. Then again, if a determined portion of the citizenry denies scientific fact, why would they believe peer-reviewed empirical historical knowledge? – TL
