The Western Political Implications Of the Burqa/Niqab?

Courtesy of Margaret Soltan and the New York Times, I bring you this French-based commentary on the political consequences and implications of the niqab (and burqa). At least this makes more sense than other simplistic, fear-based assessments that focus on the simple denial of femininity—which, as has been pointed out by others, can be voluntary. Then again, thinking analogically, do we outlaw all mask wearers? Do we outlaw large sunglasses and big hats? What is aesthetic break point in terms of assessing one’s “refusal to exist a person” via outerwear? – TL
