Two Quotes Of Interest On History

David Tyack: “If it is wise to be suspicious of historical prescriptions, it is foolish to ignore the storehouse of experience accumulated in the past.” [Source: One Best System (1974), p. 8]

Paul Roazen: “History-writing is inherently a subversive activity: students of history necessarily undermine generally received wisdom.” [Source: Forgotten (I’m sorry!)]

Thoughts? I have consistently returned to the first, but found the second more problematic. – TL
