I wouldn’t want to claim too much power for my co-poster, but Larry Small’s resignation would seem to be a direct result of TL’s condemnation of his actions as Smithsonian secretary. Right?

The issues involved are serious, since the very idea of the public interest is up for debate in the current political environment. It started with the idea of privatization, which has been largely repudiated, and has migrated to the idea of these “partnerships” between public institutions and private. The problem is that the partnerships tend to be unequal. In any case, we’ll be watching closely as the Smithsonian begins to chart a new course.

And, lest they misunderestimate the power of H&E, Look Out, World!

  1. Hah! If only we junior scholars had so much influence, even 1/100 as much importance was the Washington Post. Still, I won't deny a certain satisfaction in seeing that Mr. Small resigned. – TL
