LOC’s Today In History: Oklahoma

November 16, 2006

I loved today’s LOC entry on Oklahoma, a state name derived the Choctaw Indian words Okla (people) and humma (red). I especially enjoyed the literary map of Oklahoma, about one-third of the way down the page. The map was part of an old “Language of the Land” exhibit put on by the Library of Congress in 1993-94. – TL
